Edo2020: Oyo Athletes Smile To Bank, As Makinde Makes Financial Pronouncement

The Oyo State Govenor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, as part of his administration commitment to boost sports participation, has pronounced five hundred thousand naira (#500,000) each to the gold medalists, three hundred and fifty thousand naira (#350,000) each to the silver medalists, and two hundred and fifty thousand naira (#250,000) each to the bronze medalists.

The Governor made this pronouncement while receiving the State’s athletes that took part at the just-concluded National Sports Festival, Edo 2020 at the Governor’s Executive Chambers, Secretariat, Ibadan, on Wednesday, 21st of April.

Polity Reporters, through the Media Aide to the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, has learnt that the team of the athletes and their coaches were led by the commissioner himself to meet with the Governor.

Confirming the kind gesture of the Governor, Kazeem Olalekan Isreal, tue media aide to the commissioner, said: “The Governor, in fulfilling his promise of giving the technical and moral backing to the State’s athletes in influencing their performances in sporting activities and to also motivate them, made financial pronouncements to the athletes to appreciate their performances at the just-concluded National Sports Festival where the State emerged 6th and won 31 Gold medals.”

“The financial rewards do not include the allowances which has been paid to all the athletes during the cause of the programme,” the commissioner media aide concluded.
