“Administration Stands Behind Pantami” — Presidency

After much expectation by the Nigerian public who have taken sides to debate for or against the cancel campaign over statements credited to the current Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu has in a Thursday release taken to criticize efforts that are being combined to cancel the career of the Minister.

Garba Shehu regarded that the basis of what was said by the Minister of Communication has become inconsiderate to the present time in what he called ‘an unfortunate fashion in public discourse’ and an ‘insidious phenomenon that seeks to cancel the careers of others’.

In the release, Garba Shehu addressed that ‘The Minister has, rightly, apologized for what he said in the early 2000s’. He also mentioned that ‘The views were absolutely unacceptable then, and would be equally unacceptable today, were he to repeat them – for he has publicly and permanently condemned his earlier utterances as wrong.’

The Media and Publicity aide on behalf of the Presidency stressed that the Minister who has been long dragged on social media handles has been leading charge against illegal data deductions and pricing, aiming further to give descriptions of the good works Minister Pantami.

Furthermore, while pointing at the good work of the Minister, the Presidency through the Media aide criticizes and says ‘there are those in the opposition who see success and want it halted by any means’.

As signed by Garba Shehu the address says ‘The administration stands behind Minister Pantami and all Nigerian citizens to ensure they receive fair treatment, fair prices, and fair protection in ICT services’.
