Civil War: Twitter Bows To Pressure, Deletes Buhari’s Controversial Tweet
Twitter today deleted Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) tweet which threatens another civil war on the Southeast of Nigeria.
According to Twitter, the comment by Buhari on the Biafran war of 1967-1970 wherein many lives were lost violated the its rules.
Recall that the President had tweeted that, “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
Reacting to the tweet, many Nigerians reported the tweet, calling on Twitter to act immediately.
However, on Wednesday Twitter eventually bowed to pressure, by deleting the tweet.
Twitter stated, “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules”.
As it stands, Buhari now joined former US president, Donald Trump as leaders who have fallen under the hammer of Twitter as regards its rules.
Twitter had earlier in the year banned Trump, for his inciting comments which led to the attack on the US Congress.
