Olalekan Michael Ajibola, a.k.a. OMA, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, has explained that he ventured into politics as a student leader in order to do his part to advance both his immediate socier6 and the country as a whole.

The former PRO of UI Law made this revelation on Wednesday during an appearance on Campus Insight, a political discourse hosted by Primus Media City Radio.

“In whatever field I’m in, I have a preference for helping people and serving them. And I have repeatedly shown this by advising people on a number of positive actions to take,” he said.

When asked if the government had been “doing” him well, OMA responded negatively by referencing the fruitless results of many of these politicians’ presumed feasible manifestos, adding that “manifestos are mainly a written document of promises which might and might not come to fruition.”

And regarding his preparation towards the upcoming 2023 elections, he claimed that the fact that he has a PVC attests to his preparedness. Subsequently, he urged everyone to get out there and register for their PVC in order to express their outrage against the status quo by electing credible leaders and unseating the bad ones.

Additionally, he listed a few qualities that voters should look for in a credible leader. He claimed that a leader’s antecedents and integrity are of utmost importance because those qualities ought to be the criterion by which we should choose our leaders going forward.

Speaking further, he made use of the platform to highlight the numerous efforts the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, under the capable direction of Mr. Adewole Yinka Mascot, has been making in ensuring that all Uites register for their PVC and vote on election day.

On vote buying, Senator Reformed, who was with Mr. Olalekan at the studio, registered his own comments and urged voters to take the upcoming elections in 2023 seriously because their actions and inactions will surely have a significant impact on how the country will surface over the course of the following four years.

In addition, he bemoaned the low voter turnout on election days and urged everyone to exercise their right to vote by going to the polls.

In their closing remarks, Mr. Olalekan and Senator Reformed urged citizens to cast their ballots and avoid political indifference respectively. Votes, the latter asserted, “still count.” The former however said that if we don’t participate in politics, we will be ruled by some “inconsequential minds.”
