Ighodalo Speaks On Godfatherism In Edo State
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has promised to make independent decisions if elected governor.
Ighodalo, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), made this statement on a television program on Monday.
He assured voters that he would not serve the interests of any godfather or predecessor, but rather prioritize the needs of the people of Edo State.
Ighodalo’s comments, Polity Reporters reports, come amidst speculation about the influence of incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, who has endorsed him.
Ighodalo stressed his commitment to being a leader who makes informed decisions, seeking advice from mentors and experts while avoiding the mistakes of others.
He also expressed confidence in his ability to win the election, citing President Bola Tinubu’s assurance of a level playing ground.
The PDP candidate further outlined his plans to improve the lives of Edo State residents, including reversing the impact of federal policies that have negatively affected the state.
With the Court of Appeal’s recent affirmation of his candidacy, Ighodalo noted that he can now focus on the election and delivering his vision for the state.
