NYSC Bars Poly Graduates Without IT Experience

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that polytechnic graduates without evidence of completing the mandatory 12-month industrial training will not be registered at the NYSC orientation camp.

In a move to sanitize the education sector, the NYSC has introduced a new policy requiring polytechnic graduates to present an Industrial Training (IT) certification as part of the requirements for the national service.

In an interview on August 3, 2024, NYSC Coordinator in Lagos State, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, stated that the policy would take effect from the next orientation camp, requiring corps members to undergo a one-year IT with evidence of completion before going for Higher National Diploma (HND).

According to NYSC officials, polytechnic students are supposed to do the 12-month training as a pre-condition for earning the HND certificate.

The implementation of the policy has already begun, with polytechnic graduates without IT certificates being turned back from NYSC orientation camps across the country.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has backed the NYSC policy, stating that the industrial attachment is a critical requirement for advancing to the HND.
