Falana Condemns Treason Charges Against #EndBadGovernance Protesters

Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana has criticized the Federal Government’s decision to charge #EndBadGovernance protesters with treason, calling it a โ€œtribalisationโ€ of the law.

Speaking at an anti-corruption conference in Abuja, Falana expressed concern over the charges brought against 10 protest leaders, who pleaded not guilty to allegations including treason, attempts to destabilize the country, and destruction of government properties.

Falana, who has defended individuals accused of treason in the past, assured the public that he is taking up the case and will advise the government to withdraw the charges.

He warned that misuse of treason charges could backfire on the government, as it has in previous cases.

The #EndBadGovernance protests, which took place in August, demanded accountability and reforms in Nigeria’s governance.

Falana questioned the rationale behind charging citizens with treason for exercising their right to protest.
