FG Denies Ordering NNPC to Raise Fuel Price

The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to increase fuel prices by N1,000 above the approved pump price.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Nnemaka Okafor, described the reports as “outright falsehoods” and “baseless fabrications” aimed at sowing discord and confusion in the oil industry.

The government made emphasis that it has never interfered with petroleum pricing or given directives for price increments, and that NNPCL operates independently under the Companies and Allied Matters Act with a fully empowered Board of Directors.

The statement challenged anyone with evidence supporting the claims to make it public, stressing that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources does not interfere in NNPCL’s internal decisions, including pricing matters.
