Falana Opens Up On Why Police Invited NLC President, Secretary Again

Renowned lawyer and counsel to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Femi Falana (SAN), has revealed the reasons behind the re-invitation of NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and Secretary General, Emmanuel Ugboaja, by the Nigeria Police Force.

According to Falana, the latest invitation is connected to a petition by a private company, which accused the NLC leaders of “criminal intimidation, malicious damage to properties, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.”

This development comes after an initial invitation was issued last week, which Ajaero honored accompanied by Falana.

The police’s second letter, dated August 28, 2024, requested Ajaero and Ugboaja’s presence for an interview at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja on September 5, 2024.

Falana confirmed that the complaints against Ajaero are limited to the new allegations, which arose from a company’s claims of disruptions during a worker picket.

The re-invitation has raised questions about the motivations behind the police’s actions, with some speculating about potential attempts to silence the labor union’s leadership.

The NLC has maintained its commitment to patriotism and social justice, despite the challenges posed by the police’s actions.
