Nigerian Flag Designer Laid to Rest After Year-Long Wait for State Burial
The family of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the renowned designer of Nigeria’s national flag, has finally laid him to rest after a year-long wait for a promised state funeral that failed to materialize.
The family, despite assurances from the Federal Government, was forced to proceed with the burial due to the financial burden of the daily N2,000 morgue fee required to keep his body.
In a gesture of support, the Oyo State Government intervened and provided the necessary funds for the burial, honouring the late national icon.
The burial brings closure to a long wait for the family, who had hoped for a state funeral to recognize Akinkunmi’s contributions to Nigeria’s national identity.
