Soldiers Free To Resign — Army

The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports of a mass resignation of soldiers due to corruption, low morale, and other issues, stating that service in the army is voluntary and not conscriptive.

According to a statement by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, soldiers are free to resign at will, following laid-down procedures.

The statement emphasized that personnel can disengage from service voluntarily or mandatorily, and are entitled to prepare and process their benefits, including pensions and gratuity.

This clarification comes after a news platform alleged a mass resignation of soldiers, which the army described as baseless and misleading.

The Nigerian Army assured that personnel are highly motivated, and their welfare is a top priority under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
