Why NAFDAC Has No Right To Regulate Spiritual Products — Bishops

Over seven Bishops, led by the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Charismatic Anglican Church of Nigeria, Samuel Baaba, protested at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) office in Asaba, Delta State, on Tuesday.

The protesters, comprising members of Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry and other Christian faiths, demanded that NAFDAC refrain from regulating spiritual products, particularly those of Senior Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin.

Protesters Defy Rain, Carry Placards

The protesters, despite heavy rain, besieged the NAFDAC office with placards bearing inscriptions such as “Spiritual products have spiritual backing, don’t need NAFDAC approval” and “When it comes to spiritual, respect it.”

The protesters therefore argued that NAFDAC has no right to regulate spiritual products, as they are backed by spiritual powers.

Bishops Caution NAFDAC

Archbishop Baaba, speaking on behalf of the protesters, cautioned NAFDAC against interfering in spiritual matters.

“We are men of God, and we are here in solidarity to send a message to NAFDAC to refrain from its step over spiritual matters.

“NAFDAC does not have the right to regulate spiritual products. There is a limit to what people can do, especially when it comes to matters of faith.”

Rector Supports Protest

Rector Union Theological Institute and Seminary, Port Harcourt, Evangelical Church, Calixtus, and Most Celestine Ewurum, also supported the protest.

“To the best of my knowledge, NAFDAC’s Act, 2004, does not empower it to regulate spiritual products. NAFDAC cannot declare products fake without testing them. They should clearly state what is wrong with the water,” he said.

NAFDAC’s Previous Warning

On Sunday, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, warned Nigerians about the activities of Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, led by Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin, using the agency’s name to deceive the public.

She stated that none of the products, including Miracle & Healing Water and River Jordan Water, were registered with NAFDAC, advising the public to stop patronizing them.
