INEC Chair, Yakubu Gives Update On Edo Guber Election 

The Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has expressed satisfaction with the mock accreditation exercise held in Benin, confirming the commission’s readiness to conduct a free, fair, and credible election in Edo State on September 21.

Yakubu, during an on-the-spot assessment visit to three Local Government Areas where the mock accreditation took place, assured that the commission is fully prepared for the upcoming governorship election.

He stated, “From my assessment, the commission is fully ready for the September 21 governorship election, and the electorate has nothing to worry about.”

Mock Accreditation Exercise

The mock accreditation exercise was held in Egor, Ikpoba Okha, and Oredo local government areas of the state. Yakubu observed the exercise in two centers to test the integrity of the systems ahead of the election, including voter registration and the upload of results to the IReV portal.

Readiness Assessment

Yakubu explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess the commission’s readiness in terms of preparations, materials received, and organization of the election.

He expressed satisfaction with the readiness of the Local Government offices and the technology deployed for the election, stating that everything is in perfect condition.

Call to Voters

Yakubu urged registered voters to come out en masse to vote for their preferred candidates, stressing that INEC is neutral and has no candidate in the election.

He assured that the commission will protect the integrity of the process and uphold the choice made by the electorate.

Appeal to Stakeholders

Yakubu appealed to stakeholders, including security agencies, political parties, candidates, observers, and the media, to collaborate with INEC to ensure a successful poll in the state.
