Bibire as the Very Incarnation of Awolowo — By Senator Reformed

Some figures, by the virtue of their deeds and misdeeds, have eternally etched their names in the annals of history. Among these, a few have inscribed their legacies in gold to earn their place in the good books of humanity, while others are remembered for their misdeeds in the sordid chapters of human history.
One notable figure whose name will continue to make headlines in Africa and the world is Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Awolowo remains a political role model whose unassailable ideologies and achievements have become timeless models of governance and service to humanity.
Awolowo was a visionary leader, a statesman par excellence, and a man whose nearly impossible-to-surpass achievements and unbending but exemplary commitment to societal betterment have immortalized him in the hearts of many spread the whole world.
Indisputedly, history continues to validate him as a leader whose ideals revolved around the pursuit of a just and progressive polity that placed the people’s interests at the center of governance.
In furtherance to this, his life was a clear testament to the nobility of public service, and he unashamedly and unapologetically made the people the driving force of his political negotiations.
Among his most celebrated achievements was the introduction of free education in Western Nigeria—a revolutionary policy that transformed the region into a hub of enlightenment and opportunity.
Awolowo also implemented people-centered policies, including affordable healthcare and infrastructural development, which laid a solid foundation for socioeconomic growth.
These, above, give credence to his famous declaration that:
“In order to attain the goals of economic freedom and prosperity, Nigeria must do certain things as a matter of urgency and priority. It must provide free education (at all levels) and free health facilities for the masses of its citizens.”
The truth of the matter is that Chief Obafemi Awolowo embodied the ethos of selfless service, and his name will forever remain synonymous with progressive governance.
All said, in the contemporary political space of Oyo State, one man has risen as the embodiment of Awolowo’s fine achievements and ideals. The name of that man is Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro, popularly known as BIBIRE.
Across Oyo State—and increasingly Nigeria—Bibire continues to gain unabated recognition for his unparalleled philanthropy and unprecedented contributions to the growth, development and prosperity of the polity. Like Awolowo, Bibire has placed the people at the center of his actions, as evidenced by his unparalleled contributions to local and national development.
For the avoidance of doubt, it is worth stating that Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire’s initiatives are as impactful as they are far-reaching.
The annual Christmas Funfair he kick-started in 2020 has become a celebrated development that brings joy to countless children and families in Oyo State. And heartwarmingly, this event, unrivalled in its scale and benevolence, has blessed innumerable lives year after year.
It should however be noted that this festive celebration doesn’t only define his commitment to alleviating economic hardship. His kind gestures this year alone—which are clearly not opaque in the public domain—are too numerous to list but highly applaudable.
Let us refresh the memory about the provision of his free petrol for commercial motorcyclists and Keke Maruwa riders in Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency during the US Veterans Day
Prior to this, he launched a free ride-to-school program to ease the financial burden on families in Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency. In the same vein, he facilitated the large-scale distribution of educational materials to ensure that students within these two local government areas are not denied the wherewithal to succeed in their academics.
Similarly, the establishment of a food bank to support families with essential food items is a proof of his understanding of grassroots needs.
Infact, even in the digital space, Bibire continues to spread goodwill and provide requisite succour to those in need through his frequent over-5-year-old Facebook giveaway session.
Cataloging all his philanthropic efforts would be to embark on mission impossible. However, one undeniable truth is that the actions of this first-class philanthropist mirror the selflessness and humanity that defined Awolowo’s leadership.
Given these achievements, it is unsurprising that residents of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency have begun to see Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro as the very incarnation of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
At the just-concluded Bibire Christmas Funfair, held inside the iconic Adamasingba Stadium, a youth told this writer, “Like Awolowo, like Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire.” He further added that if Awolowo had passed before Bibire’s birth, one could convincingly argue that Awolowo’s spirit found a new vessel in Bibire.
The mistake the people of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency must not make is to deny Bibire the mandate to represent them at the Federal House of Representatives in 2027. To deny Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire the mandate to represent them at the Federal House of Representatives in 2027 would be a monumental mistake. They must recognize the unique opportunity before them. Just as the Western Region continues to benefit from Awolowo’s legacy, so too will the constituency reap the rewards of Bibire’s leadership if elected.
Representation at the House of Representatives is not merely about occupying a seat; it is about giving the people a voice, facilitating developmental projects, and ensuring effective governance. And, with Bibire in office, the people of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency should indeed expect transformative leadership on a much larger scale because he has already proven his capability to address their needs and deliver results even with no political portfolio.
And fact is that his proven track record of service, even without holding an official position, is a clear indicator of what he will achieve when given the platform to serve. What will he do? He will totally redefine what effective representation means on the floor of the House. He will bring developmental projects and policies that will transform lives and uplift communities.
Nigeria’s failure to elect Awolowo as president remains one of the nation’s greatest political missteps. The consequences of that decision—poor infrastructure, widespread poverty, ballooning hunger, large-scale unemployment, massive educational decline, substandard living conditions, and what have you—are still evident today. This historical error should serve as a cautionary tale for the good people of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency.
Governance, they say, is continuum. If the good and ever-rational people of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency are truly committed to progress and good governance, they must act decisively by voting for Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire in 2027. In him, they have a leader determined to build upon existing progress and elevate it to an enviable pedestal.
Let us not miss this chance to make history anew. The people of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency must rise to the occasion and entrust their mandate to a man who has proven himself worthy of their trust and support. In Bibire, the spirit of Awolowo lives on, ready to, as a servant-leader, represent them efficiently and emplace the numero uno federal constituency on greater heights.
