I Need Gyokeres This  January — Amorim Tells Man Utd

Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim, has told the club he cannot afford to wait until the summer and wants them to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres this January transfer window.

Man United were heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old striker when Amorim decided to leave the Portuguese club and move to the Premier League few months ago.

Gyokeres excelled under Amorim as he established himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe with 70 goals in 77 games.

Man United were expected to see how the current season went ahead of potentially launching a move for the Sweden international next summer, with Amorim insisting he would not be signing any of his former Sporting players during this January transfer window.

But Man United’s dreadful form has seemingly forced Amorim to change his mind.

According to the Daily Star, the 39-year-old has instructed his bosses at Old Trafford to bring Gyokeres, who has a release clause worth £80m, to the club this January.

Amorim has endured a poor start to his tenure as Man United manager so far.

The Portuguese has taken just seven points from his first eight Premier League matches in charge.

Man United’s recent 2-0 loss against Newcastle United condemned them to a third straight home defeat for the first time in 45 years.

Amorim had repeatedly said it will take time to turn the Red Devils around.
