Bibire Hosts GCI Cadets, Amplifies Benefits of Extracurricular Activities in Schools

Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro, popularly known as Bibire, has stated that extracurricular activities should be given premium priority in schools as they play a huge role in character development, leadership building, and preparing students for future opportunities.

He disclosed this yesterday, Friday (January 3) during a lunch he hosted to engage the Government College Ibadan cadets, who had come to appreciate his immense support for the growth and development of the school’s military arm.

As an alumnus of GCI, Hon. Fagbenro-Bibire felt nostalgic as he recalled fond memories of his time as a cadet during his student years.

He stressed how being part of the cadet unit played a significant role in shaping his discipline, leadership skills, and sense of responsibility.

Drawing from his personal journey, he highlighted how his cadet experience proved invaluable and paved the way for his eventual successful service in the U.S. Navy.

As a renowned U.S. Navy veteran, Hon. Fagbenro-Bibire credited his cadet training as an essential foundation for his achievements in the military.

He, however, used the occasion to advocate for schools to invest in extracurricular activities, describing them as essential for equipping students with practical skills beyond academics.

He equally urged educators and policymakers to recognize the importance of such programs and developments in nurturing well-rounded minds.

Going further, he expressed his commitment to promoting extracurricular engagements, particularly among students, as a tool for unlocking their potential.

Hon. Fagbenro-Bibire rounded up the interactive engagement by encouraging the cadets to uphold discipline, service, and excellence, principles, which he said, would undoubtedly guide them to success.

He concluded by reaffirming his unbending commitment to supporting the military unit that made him a whole man, and equally pledged to advance initiatives and programs designed to empower young people and enhance holistic development.
