Makinde Approves Appointment Of New Alaafin Of Oyo
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo, following the recommendation of the Oyomesi, the council of kingmakers.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade. According to Oyelade, Owoadeโs selection came after extensive consultations and traditional rites performed by the Oyomesi.
โPrince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been recommended by the Oyomesi, and his appointment has been approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,โ the statement read.
Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated that the appointment resolves all disputes surrounding the succession process following the passing of the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022.
โThis decision brings closure to the socio-legal controversies that followed the transition of Oba Adeyemi. We urge everyone in Oyo State to unite and support the new Alaafin as we celebrate this historic event,โ Ojo said.
The government expressed optimism that the new monarchโs reign would foster peace, unity, and progress in the Oyo Kingdom.
โWe are confident that Prince Owoadeโs leadership will strengthen the legacy of the Alaafin institution and bring prosperity to the people of Oyo,โ Oyelade added.
The people of Oyo have been encouraged to rally behind the new Alaafin as he ascends the throne, ushering the kingdom into a new era of growth and stability.
