Lagos Assembly Condemns Invasion

The members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have described the invasion of the complex by armed security operatives as a step towards anarchy.

Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police forcefully gained access to the Assembly on Monday morning, and took over the premises.

Reacting to the development during a plenary session on Monday afternoon after the arrival of the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, the lawmakers called on the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to investigate the invasion and make the findings known to the public.

While calling for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention to prevent further escalation of the situation, the 36 lawmakers in attendance unanimously tagged the invasion as “abuse of legislative procedure and a threat to democratic governance in Lagos State “.

“This is not a government ruled by the barrel of a gun. This is an aberration of democracy and a step toward anarchy.

“What happened today is a total embarrassment and an act of harassment,” said member representing Epe constituency, Abiodun Tobun during the session.

The Nigeria Police Force and the DSS are yet to respond to the Assembly’s condemnation.
