Osun LG Election: Adeleke Denies Public Holiday Declaration

The Osun State government has issued a stern warning to civil servants and the general public to ignore circulating rumours about a declared public holiday.

In an official statement released to Polity Reporters, the spokesperson Mallam Olawale Rasheed confirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke has not declared any public holiday.

According to the statement, civil servants are advised to ignore the false development and continue their normal duties.

“The public bureaucracy is urged to ignore news circulating about the declaration of a public holiday.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke has not declared any public holiday.

“The civil servants should ignore the news and continue their lawful duties,” the spokesperson said.

The fake press release, which has been making the rounds on social media, falsely claimed that the governor had declared Thursday, 20th February, and Friday, 21st February 2025, as public holidays.

The erroneous release further stated that the two-day break was intended to allow civil servants to travel to their respective Local Government Areas in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections.

It also included an appeal for citizens to renounce violence and engage peacefully in the democratic process, and was purportedly signed by Hon. Kayode Rasheed Aderibigbe, Commissioner for Home Affairs.

It reads:

“This is to notify the general public that the Executive Governor of the State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has declared Thursday, 20th and Friday,21st February,2025 as public holiday

“2. The declaration of the two(02) days is to afford Civil Servants in the State to travel down to their respective Local Government Areas in order to perform their civic responsibility in the forthcoming Local Government election in the State.Hence,the Executive Governor is also using this medium to appeal to all citizen to renounce violence,bitterness, acrimony and participate in the democratic process peacefully and return to the comfort of their homes without incident.”
