Adeleke Relaxes Curfew

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the relaxation of the curfew imposed on the three communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.

The curfew was imposed in the three communities initially in the wake of communal tensions in the first quarter of the year.

The decision to relax the curfew by the governor, according to a statement by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, follows the near total return of peace to the affected areas.

Governor Adeleke also said he relaxed the curfew taking into account the upcoming Eid El Kabir festival.

The statement by Alimi disclosed that the new curfew hours will run from 9:00pm to 5:00am daily, beginning on Sunday, 25 May 2025.

The previous curfew period, which lasted from 6:00pm to 6:00am, was enforced in response to communal clashes between the towns.

Governor Adeleke urged continued restraint and cooperation among residents while warning that the curfew will remain in force until complete peace is confirmed.

He also issued a strong warning to the traditional rulers of the three towns, stating that they must ensure their subjects do not disrupt public peace.

“Any traditional ruler whose subject is caught being a clog in the wheel of achieving total peace will be made to face the wrath of the law,” the statement read.

“I commend the three towns and other stakeholders for the peace and harmony currently taking shape. I urge that you should please keep it up,” Adeleke added.

The Governor further directed that joint security forces comprising the Army, Police, DSS, and Civil Defence maintain round-the-clock surveillance in the communities.

“Security agencies must continue 24-hour monitoring to ensure that peace is sustained in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun,” the statement detailed.
