EPL: Wirtz Makes History With Liverpool Move

New Liverpool midfielder, Florian Wirtz, now holds the British transfer record, after he completed his move from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year contract and will cost the Reds £116.5m (€137.5m).

According to Sky Sports, the total package is made up of a £100m initial payment and £16.5m in potential add-ons.

It could eclipse the previous record of £115m Chelsea paid to Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023, should the additional bonuses be met.

Wirtz underwent his medical earlier in the day after returning from holiday.

The German midfielder has snubbed interest from Liverpool’s rivals Manchester City, as well as a reunion with Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid.

He spent his entire senior career at Leverkusen and scored 10 goals and registered 12 assists in 25 starts last season, as they finished runners-up to Bayern Munich.
