Fagbenro-Bibire Condemns FG Over Delayed Super Eagles Bonuses, Links Neglect to Workers’ Welfare

Renowned Nigerian philanthropist, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire has condemned the Federal Government over what he described as a lack of seriousness in fulfilling its promise to pay the Super Eagles their outstanding bonuses.

Bibire, in a statement made available to Polity Reporters today, Friday, recalled that the Federal Government publicly assured Nigerians that the payment of the Super Eagles bonuses had been fast tracked and would be completed within days ahead of the team’s quarter final match at the Africa Cup of Nations.

According to him, this development sends a wrong message to athletes who are hearting the desire to represent the country with commitment and pride on the international stage.

Bibire said the situation became even more embarrassing when Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi publicly promised to personally pay the bonuses if the Federal Government failed to do so.

He described Ndidi’s intervention as generous but shameful for a nation whose leaders ought to take responsibility for their commitments.

The founder of the Hope Also Need Help Foundation stated that the Super Eagles who represent their fatherland with their all should not be placed in situations where private individuals intervene to solve official responsibilities.

He warned that repeated failure to keep promises will discourage excellence and weaken national morale among young Nigerians.

Bibire added that the treatment of the Super Eagles reflects the daily reality faced by Nigerian workers across the country.

He said, “Our politicians enjoy lives of luxury and comfort while ordinary workers struggle.

“They live in grand homes and travel in comfort yet workers continue to wait for salaries allowances and bonuses.

“This situation shows a lack of priority and responsibility toward the people whose labour keeps the nation running.”

The leading House of Representatives aspirant for Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency under the platform of the PDP said a government that truly values its people would always find ways to reward hard work and uphold dignity.

Bibire, therefore, called on all Nigerians to demand accountability and insist on leadership that serves the collective interest of the people.

He concluded by urging leaders to move away from self-centred governance and work sincerely for the welfare of all Nigerians.
