Former Atiku’s Spokesperson Praises Tinubu After Wike, Fubara Reconciliation

Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s leadership skills, saying they should be studied.

Tinubu recently brokered peace between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who had been embroiled in a bitter power struggle.

The reconciliation meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, resulted in both parties agreeing to put aside their differences and work together, with Wike declaring that peace has returned to Rivers State.

Sowunmi took to X to praise Tinubu’s leadership, stating, “This is how to lead! A leader must resolve issues, not make them worse.”

“There is nothing wrong in studying Asiwaju @officialABAT,” Sowunmi added, noting that learning from effective leaders, regardless of their background, is essential.

“After all, we study leaders in other climes. It is a weakness and colonial mentality to think that one of our own cannot be learned,” he educated.

The reconciliation continues to be seen by many political analysts and social commentators as a significant achievement for Tinubu, who had previously declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended Fubara due to the crisis.

Background of the Crisis

The power struggle between Wike and Fubara began when Fubara assumed office in 2023, leading to a protracted political crisis that crippled the state legislature.

Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency, suspend Fubara, and replace him with a Sole Administrator was met with criticism from some quarters, with Atiku Abubakar accusing him of political manipulation and bad faith.

However, the recent reconciliation effort appears to have yielded positive results, with both Wike and Fubara agreeing to work together.
