Ibadan Boys High School Pulls Stunning Comeback to Win IBSW ICT CDS Syndicate Quiz Competition

The Ibadan Boys High School has emerged winner of the highly competitive and intellectually stimulating quiz competition organized by the ICT Community Development Service Syndicate of the National Youth Service Corps, Ibadan Southwest Local Government chapter.

Polity Reporters confirms that the intellectual exercise, which was held today, the 20th of May, at the Mathematics Theater of Government College Ibadan, featured three participating schools namely Government College Ibadan, Ibadan Boys High School, and Community Grammar School, Oke-Ayo.

Delivering her welcome address, Miss Oyenike, President of the ICT CDS group, explained that the competition is in tandem with the aim of the NYSC scheme of contributing to educational development in the host community.

In his own address, the Local Government Inspector, Mr Oyeyiola, affirmed that the competition was organized among selected senior secondary schools within the local government area to encourage the students to remain diligent in their studies, promote hard work and reward academic excellence.

The LGI appreciated the ICT CDS Syndicate for conceiving and executing such a laudable project directed at strengthening the intellectual capacity of students in the host community.

He also communicated his profound appreciation to the management of Government College Ibadan for their reception and willingness to support the initiative by offering their facility for the event.

Mr Oyeyiola concluded by encouraging the participants to give their best and reminded them that they are all winners, regardless of the final result.

Immediately after his remarks, the three-round competition commenced officially with questions drawn from Information, Communication, Technology, and General Knowledge.

Polity Reporters can confirm that Government College Ibadan took an early lead by winning the first round but lost momentum in the second and third rounds, which cost them the first position by just half a point as they finished with 36.5 points behind Ibadan Boys High School who secured 37 points.

Ibadan Boys High School made a stunning comeback in the second and third rounds, scoring a total of 37 points to clinch the first position.

At the end of the competition, the panel of judges, comprising the Corps Liaison Officer, Mr Akomolafe Timileyin, and the former ICT CDS President, Mr Wisdom Ebube, announced Community Grammar School Oke-Ayo as Second Runner Up with 21 points, Government College Ibadan as First Runner Up with 36.5 points, and Ibadan Boys High School as the overall winner with 37 points.

Gift items were presented to the second and first runners-up by the Assistant LGI, Mrs Folakemi Eguakhide.

The LGI, Mr Oyeyiola Shola, presented the top prize to the winning school, Ibadan Boys High School.

Each of the six student participants received certificates of participation as recognition for their efforts and intellectual commitment.

One of the high points of the day was an impromptu intellectual exercise where representatives from Government College Ibadan and Ibadan Boys High School were randomly asked questions, to which they responded with impressive brilliance and confidence.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Akomolafe Timileyin, the CLO, while the closing remarks were given by the LGI, who encouraged students to stay committed to the pursuit of knowledge, as it would significantly enhance their lives and make them agents of positive change within their communities and beyond.

He also commended the teachers of the participating schools for their steadfast dedication and sacrifice in preparing the students for the competition.

Polity Reporters gathered that corps members in attendance were served refreshments, while lively music from the DJ kept the atmosphere cheerful and celebratory throughout the event.

Among those present were executives of the ICT CDS Syndicate as well as those from other CDS groups.

One of the representatives from Government College Ibadan expressed satisfaction with the quiz, saying it was a test of not just what they know but how well they could think under pressure.

“We are grateful to the NYSC ICT CDS group for organizing this program. It has opened our minds to new knowledge and shown us how much more we can achieve when we challenge ourselves,” he said.

Another from Ibadan Boys High School described the competition as tough but inspiring, and said the last two rounds taught them the value of persistence even when things seem difficult, as they had to fight hard to overturn their early setback.

He said, “When we lost the first round, we were a bit discouraged, but we encouraged ourselves and came back stronger in the second and third rounds. Winning today is a result of believing in ourselves and never giving up.”

A female participant from Community Grammar School, Oke-Ayo, also commended the organizers and acknowledged how much she and her teammate learnt during the competition.

She said, “I learnt a lot from this competition. Some of the questions we didn’t answer correctly have now opened my eyes to areas I need to study harder. I’m really grateful to the organizers and I look forward to doing better in the future.”

The week-long Cultural Fiesta continues tomorrow with a football competition scheduled to hold at the NCRI field, while all eyes are set on next week Monday for the grand finale which is the Cultural Day celebration at the Liberty Stadium.
