IBSWLG Chairman, Hon. Akande Welcomes 2025 A1 Corps Members to Local Government, Offers Important Advice

Corps members posted to Ibadan Southwest Local Government have been encouraged to use their one-year national service to make a meaningful impact in the area and contribute positively to the lives of the people.

The Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, ably represented by the Secretary, Hon. Adebanjo Sunday Raphael, gave this useful advice today, Tuesday, while welcoming the 2025 Batch A Stream I Corps Members who were deployed to their designated places of primary assignment within the local government after completing their compulsory 3-week orientation in camp.

He buttressed that one of the core objectives of the scheme is for corps members to offer selfless service and leave a positive footprint in the communities where they are posted.

He further stated that the NYSC scheme has greatly contributed to national, state and local development, and called on the corps members to remain committed to its vision by upholding the values of patriotism, diligence, high moral conduct, loyalty, discipline, fairness, equity, and the fear of God throughout their service year.

Hon. Akande, who described Ibadan Southwest as one of the most peaceful local government areas in Nigeria, advised the corps members to steer clear of activities that could endanger their safety or compromise their security.

He gave assurance that his administration remains committed to ensuring their security by replicating the efficient security strategies already championed by Governor Seyi Makinde.

He also appreciated the NYSC management across the three tiers of government for their steadfast dedication to the success of the scheme.

This was as he commended the officials of the scheme in the local government, particularly the Local Government Inspector, for their tireless efforts, sacrifice, and selfless service in ensuring that corps members arrived safely to the local government all the way from the NYSC Camp in Iseyin.

He ended by wishing all corps members an exciting, rewarding, fulfilling, and successful service year in the local government.

In his own remarks, the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Asela Adelodun, urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme by abiding by all stipulated rules, integrating quickly into their communities, and understanding the environment and language.

The HLGA, Mrs Salawu Oluwatoyosi, in her remarks, urged the corps members to uphold discipline and actively participate in meaningful activities that would enhance their personal growth and professional development.

She further amplified the importance of wearing the garment of noble qualities such as humility and service to humanity, as enshrined in the NYSC motto.

The NYSC Local Government Inspector for the local government, Mr Oyeyiola Shola, while speaking, briefed the corps members on the basic rules and expectations specific to the local government, especially regarding proper conduct and basic practices.

In attendance at the event were also the Director of Finance; Officer in Charge of NYSC in the local government, Mrs Adeyinka; officials from various departments of the local government; the Corps Liaison Officer; NYSC executives; and other stakeholders.

The event was brought to a close with a group photograph featuring the leadership of the local government, the LGI, and corps members present.

Polity Reporters gathered that after the event came to a close, corps members were served refreshments and given a token to support their transportation to various destinations.
