INTERVIEW: Anointing Makes A Great Singer — Cole Tee

Mr. Tolulope Cole, often known as Cole Tee, is the director of Atmosphere of Worship and one of Nigeria’s brightest gospel music stars. Over the years, God has used his songs to bless lives in incredible ways.

However, in this interview with Polity Reporters, Mr Tolulope discusses his musical background, his drawbacks and the inspiration behind the formation of Atmosphere of Worship.

Here’s what he had to say:

Polity Reporters: Good afternoon sir, can we meet you?

Mr Tolu: Hello and good afternoon. I am Cole Tolulope Ebenezer, a native of Abeokuta and Agricultural Engineering student at the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan.

Polity Reporters: You are welcome, sir. Moving on. You’ve built a reputation as a gospel singer over the years. My question now is what indeed inspired you to pursue a career as a gospel singer, we’d like to know.

Mr Tolu: Thank you for your question. I’ve been singing since I was a teenager. Consequent upon that, I formally joined the adult choir at my church in 2011, but I didn’t consider myself as a music minister until I started school. So, it’s a divine call, and God has been my back-up since I began ministering. In addition, I want to utilise music to impact my generation and be used by God in that field.

Polity Reporters: Almost every singer plays an instrument. What instrument do you perform on? Or do you not have any?

Mr Tolulope: I don’t play instrument.

Polity Reporters: Any reason for that sir?

Mr Tolulope: Actually, there is no reason, except the fact that there was no time when I realised I needed to study playing an instrument; nevertheless, as time passes, I will be able to learn.

Polity Reporters: Outside of music, do you have other hobbies or interests?

Mr Tolulope: My favourite hobby is still music; if I’m not singing, I’ll play a song. The same may be said regarding travelling and camping. However, politics fascinates me.

Polity Reporters: Alright sir. What strength do you have that you believe make you a great singer?

Mr Tolulope: My only source of strength is God’s spirit. To be honest, I don’t have any strenght of myself.

Polity Reporters: Do you have any weaknesses that you’re actively attempting to improve on?

Mr Tolulope: Hummmm. Connection and finances are two of my vocal weaknesses.

Polity Reporters: Hmmm. Sir, it’s all okay. What is the best piece of advise you’ve ever received from another singer?

Mr Tolulope: None. God’s grace, not any minister, has brought me to this point.

Polity Reporters: Is there a particular singer who inspires you? What characteristics do you admire in them?

Mr Tolulope: Despite the fact that I had been singing prior to discovering Dunsi Oyekan, I must however admit that Dunsi Oyekan inspires me greatly; his music is a message on itself. On the subject of characteristics, I believe he possesses unction. And, as I look ahead at people who have made, and continue to make, an impact in the ministry, I really appreciate all spirit-filled singers, famous or not.

Polity Reporters: Wow. That’s excellent. Which skills have you developed that assist you in performing well as a singer?

Mr Tolulope: I don’t have any skills. However, I am experienced in managing my stage, instrumentalists, and backups.

Polity Reporters: Give an example of your worst performance. What did you take away from this encounter?

Mr Tolulope: I can’t recall my worst ministerial performance, or should I say, I don’t have one.

Polity Reporters: It’s all right. What characteristics do you believe characterise a great singer?

Mr Tolulope: Anointing makes a great singer.

Polity Reporters: Hmm…lastly, what’s the idea behind Atmosphere of worship?

Mr Tolulope: God told me to have it that He wants His people to experience an atmosphere of true worship. The atmosphere of worship is to be held in non-worship oriented churches, with the objective of seeing such congregations recognise the power of worship songs.
