Interview: Polity Reporters @ 2

Today, we spoke with Senator Reformed, the founder of Polity Reporters, as the news organisation celebrates its two-year anniversary tomorrow.

Polity Reporters: Can we know your particulars?

Senator Reformed: My name is Isaac Boluwatife, popularly known as Senator Reformed. A student of the University of Ibadan.

Polity Reporters: Which position do you hold in the ladder of Polity Reporters?

Senator Reformed: I’m the founder of Polity Reporters.

Polity Reporters: Straight to business, what brought about the name polity reporters?

Senator Reformed: Thanks. That was prompted by my determination to keep the people informed about events in their polity, thus, making them more politically aware.

Polity Reporters: What is the brain behind its establishment?

Senator Reformed: In part 1, we wrote an essay about amotekun, which was popular at the time. Unfortunately, some of my level mates were unfamiliar with amotekun, and some mistook it for something else. So I set out to solve the problem by informing a true friend of mine, Alfa(I call him Alfa) Luqman Alagunfon, who suggested that I create a WhatsApp platform specifically for that purpose. He said I can achieve my purpose of keeping the public informed about what’s going on in their polity by inviting seasoned speakers to share their thoughts on matters of national importance, while also sharing summarised news to the platform. (There was no website back then.)

Polity Reporters: Polity Reporters will be 2 years tomorrow(Feb.24), how do you feel?

Senator Reformed: Well, I’d say I’m overjoyed because our mission to keep everyone politically engaged is yielding positive results, as more youths are becoming increasingly concerned about issues that affect them politically. In addition, through our verified and authentic news reporting, we’ve been able to quench the fire of fake news to a large extent.

Polity Reporters: Who can you say are the backbones of Polity Reporters?

Senator Reformed: Hmmm…I suppose God comes first! Then there are others who have pledged to keep the vision alive. The list however goes on and on. In view of this, I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for their unwavering support.

Polity Reporters: Knowing you as a political entity, how have you being able to run Polity Reporters in an unbiased status as per its published news and articles?

Senator Reformed: To start with, my determination to be a reformer in my society turned me into a political figure. However, as previously stated, only the liberation of people’s minds and the eradication of fake news are priorities for polity reporters. And I don’t think we have derailed from this very path because our unbiased and verified publication– regardless of whose ox is gored–attest to this. In view of this, allow me to state unequivocally that Polity Reporters is apolitical; Polity Reporters belongs to everybody, and belongs to nobody.

Polity Reporters: Perhaps, if you find yourself in a top executive or legislative position in future, what will be the fate of Polity Reporters? Considering the fact that it is a non-partisan entity.

Senator Reformed: Hmm… Keep in mind. TVC is owned by Tinubu. Silveebird is owned by Ben Bruce. AIT is owned by Raymond Dokpesi. Nonetheless, these news organisations adhere to journalistic ethics, which ensures that they are fair in all aspects of their reporting. Hence, Polity Reporters will not be an exception if I ever find myself in a top executive or legislative position in the future.

Polity Reporters: Is Polity Reporters a campus or national oriented?

Senator Reformed: Polity Reporters is a global news organisation with a worldwide audience. Hence, the need for them (the audience) to be updated on events unfolding in their own polity.

Polity Reporters: Has there been any challenge in the affairs of Polity Reporters for the past 2 years? If Yes, kindly share.

Senator Reformed: The main challenge facing Polity Reporters is a lack of funding, which prevents us from recruiting more capable hands. I doubt if anyone would want to work without being paid. In addition, my student status has prevented us from effecting so many activities that we should have as we are not unmindful of the demanding activities that come with being a student, especially one at the University of Ibadan.

Polity Reporters: Where do you see Polity Reporters in the next 4,5,6 years?

Senator Reformed: in the next five years, I see Polity Reporters, becoming one of the leading news agencies in the world.

Polity Reporters: On a rating scale of 10, rate Polity Reporters news story validity and effectiveness?

Senator Reformed: We recognise that news can be contradictory, which is why we fact-check every news from at least three credible sources before publishing it. In view of this, it is not nonsensical to rate the validity and effectiveness of our news story on the scale of 9. And I suppose that’s excellent.

Polity Reporters: Thanks for your time, sir.

Senator Reformed: My Pleasure.
