JUST IN: FG Declares Christmas, New Year Public Holidays

The Federal Government has officially announced public holidays for the festive season to mark Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year celebrations.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, Thursday, 25th December 2025 and Friday 26th December 2025 are declared public holidays for Christmas Day and Boxing Day respectively.

Thursday, 1st January 2026 has also been declared a public holiday to celebrate New Year’s Day.

In the statement, the Minister urged Nigerians to use the festive season to reflect on values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, and to pray for peace, improved security and national progress.

The holidays will be observed nationwide and workers, students and the general public are expected to enjoy the festive break as part of the official holiday period.
