Lincoln University Suspends Ekweremadu
Nigerian lawmaker and former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has been relieved of his duties as a visiting professor by UK university Lincoln University.
Ekweremadu was suspended from Lincoln University after being charged in the UK with trafficking people for the purpose of harvesting their organs.
Just over a week ago, the university announced the appointment of Ekweremadu as a visiting professor of Corporate and International Linkages.
Prior to the conclusion of the UK police investigation into the former Nigerian deputy Senate President and his wife Beatrice, Lincoln University stated that it would refrain from making any further comments on the subject.
“Visiting professors are often, as is in this case, non-resident at the university, unpaid and advisory,” a Lincoln University spokesperson said.
“We are deeply concerned about the nature of these allegations, but as this is an active police investigation, we cannot comment further at this stage.
“Whilst this matter is subject to investigation, this person will not be undertaking any duties as visiting professor at Lincoln.”
