Nigeria Customs Clarifies Shooting Incident Video as Old Footage

The Nigerian Customs Service has stated that a video circulating on social media concerning a shooting incident involving its operatives is an old recording from 2019.

The spokesperson for the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, clarifying that the incident actually took place on February 17, 2019.

The NCS stated, “The NCS wishes to categorically state that the incident in question occurred on Sunday, 17 February 2019, and is not a recent development, as portrayed by some online platforms.”

The Service explained that following the incident at the Shagamu Interchange in Ogun State, it took immediate steps to address the situation in line with its internal procedures.

A public statement was issued at the time, and a disciplinary panel was established to investigate the matter thoroughly.

The NCS added that at the end of the process, appropriate sanctions were applied, including the dismissal of the officers found culpable.
