Osun: PDP, APC Engage in Heated Battle Over Seized Local Government Allocation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has accused the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, of abuse of office and high-handedness over the seizure of local government allocations.

_Allegations Against Fagbemi_

Fagbemi’s actions have been described as a “dangerous erosion of the doctrine of separation of power,” with the PDP calling on President Bola Tinubu to rein in Fagbemi and remind him that no one is above the law.

_Fagbemi’s Previous Role Raises Questions_

The party pointed out that Fagbemi previously served as lead counsel to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and should therefore recuse himself from matters affecting Osun State’s political ecosystem.

_Lack of Judicial Backing for Seizure_

The PDP argued that the directive halting fund disbursement to democratically elected local governments in Osun State lacks judicial backing and is a clear affront to constitutionalism and the principles of fair hearing.

_APC Fires Back at PDP_

In response, the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) called on the public to ignore the PDP’s claims, stating that the Ademola Adeleke-led PDP government has subjected millions of people to avoidable hardship by preventing local government workers from working since February 16, 2025.

_APC Accuses PDP of Desperation and Incompetence_

The APC accused the PDP-led government of desperation, incompetence, and resorting to petty blackmail and press bullying to twist the law in its favour.

_Power Struggle Between APC and PDP_

The Osun State Government has approached the Supreme Court to intervene in the seized local government allocation, amid a power tussle between the APC and PDP over local government administration.

_Current Situation_

The state government has been using funds meant for developmental projects to pay local government workers’ salaries, amid the crisis.
