PDP Leaders Declare Anyanwu As National Secretary, Warn Party

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of the party, referencing the PDP constitution and a Supreme Court ruling.
The decision was announced in a communiqué read by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Monday.
Wike maintained that only Anyanwu, as National Secretary, is authorized to issue official notices for key party meetings, including the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Working Committee (NWC), and National Convention.
He declared that any notices or actions not issued by Anyanwu, including correspondences to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), are “null and void.”
The minister also warned that the PDP risks “self-annihilation” if members continue to disregard the party’s constitution and engage in “selfish and divisive actions.”
He, therefore, urged immediate respect for the Supreme Court’s judgment to halt the party’s drift toward collapse.
The meeting also called for support for the National Reconciliation Committee, led by Senator Bukola Saraki, and urged party members to uphold the rule of law.
The stakeholders also agreed that the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket should be zoned to the South, in line with principles of fairness and federal character, following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure from the North.
Prominent attendees included former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, alongside several former lawmakers and party officials.
