Police Arrest Self-styled Prophet Over Failed December 25 End-of-world Prophecy

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, following a series of public prophecies that recently generated widespread public interest and debate.

The police announced the arrest in a statement published on their official website on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Eshun was apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team as part of ongoing security measures aimed at monitoring cyber-related activities ahead of end-of-year religious programmes, particularly 31st night services.

Authorities said the action followed online reports linking the arrest to earlier warnings issued by security agencies against individuals who make public prophecies or pronouncements capable of causing fear, panic, or disturbances to public order.

The statement read in part: “The Ghana Police Service confirms the arrest of Evans Eshun, also known as Ebo Noah, by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team.

“The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to monitor and address cyber-related activities, especially in the period leading up to 31st night religious events.

“This confirmation follows reports circulating online suggesting that the arrest was connected to security advisories cautioning against public declarations or prophecies that could incite fear or disrupt public peace. At this stage, the Police Service has not disclosed specific allegations or the exact nature of the conduct under investigation.”

The police reiterated that in recent years, security agencies have consistently cautioned individuals and groups against making predictions or public statements, particularly during end-of-year religious activities, that could provoke panic or threaten public safety.

Such conduct, the statement noted, may be examined under existing laws governing public order, communications, and cyber-related offences.

According to police sources, Eshun remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

Authorities have not yet announced any formal charges, court appearances, or bail conditions, nor have they indicated whether other individuals are under investigation in connection with the matter.

The Police Service urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation, stressing that investigations are ongoing and that due process will be followed.

It also emphasised that the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Ebo Noah rose to prominence after constructing a large wooden structure known as the “Ebo Noah Ark,” which he claimed was built following divine instruction.

He had warned that a devastating flood would begin on December 25.

He first attracted national attention in August after claiming he received a revelation predicting three years of catastrophic rainfall that would destroy the world.

The construction of the ark and his public calls for repentance drew widespread media coverage, visitors, and intense public debate across Ghana and beyond.

However, Eshun later released a video stating that the predicted disaster did not occur after he received a new revelation following prayers, fasting, and consultations with other religious leaders.

According to him, the updated vision revealed that the number of people seeking refuge in the ark exceeded its capacity, prompting God to grant him additional time to construct more arks to accommodate everyone.
