Son Confirms Departure from Tottenham After 10 Years
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has confirmed that he will leave the club this summer after a decade-long stint in north London, describing the decision as “one of the most difficult” of his career.
“I have decided to leave the team this summer,” Son stated at a press conference in Seoul, where he expressed his gratitude to the club and fans for their support throughout his journey.
The 33-year-old forward, who joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, has made 454 appearances for the club, scoring 173 goals and winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season.
Son’s departure comes after he led the team to their first trophy in 17 years, winning the UEFA Europa League title, which seemed to have played a significant role in his decision to leave.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank praised Son as a “true Spurs legend” and acknowledged that he would be hard to replace, while also respecting the player’s desire for a new challenge.
Son’s potential next destination is reportedly Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC, with negotiations between the two parties reportedly advancing.
The forward’s decision to leave Tottenham has generated an emotional response from fans worldwide, who have appreciated his dedication and contributions to the club over the past decade.
