SPN Demands LAUTECH Staff Arrears

In a Press Release of the Socialist Party Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter signed by the State Secretary, Comrade Ayodeji Adigun, in an address on the recent removal of Professor Michael Ologunde, an appointee of the APC-led Osun state government has advised the Oyo state government to halt her rivalry struggle for domination over the academic institution. SPN calls on the Oyo State government to pay all owed salaries and allowances and at the same time urged the leadership of LAUTECH workers unions not to allow the integrity of the Unions be muddled with.
The Press release addressed that the rights of LAUTECH workers to embark on strike and protest in demanding payment of the workers’ outstanding salaries was an enough and an acceptable reason to stir workers agitation in the University.
SPN opposes the move of the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who during a live radio program on Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo state (BCOS) alleged that the Vice Chancellor had incited workers of the institution to embark on the agitation which clamoured the payment of the state owed seven months arrears. SPN stresses that the reported allegation leveled against the sacked Vice Chancellor and the attempt by the government to hide under same as a basis for the sack of the VC is mischievous.
SPN further warns about the attempt to divide the University along indigene lines. The Socialist Party also demands that the rights of every worker and students regardless of where they hail from must be protected and accordingly respected.
The released stated that ‘a more responsible approach is for the Oyo state government to pay all outstanding salary and allowances of workers in order to put an end to the real root of workers anger and agitation instead of chasing shadows or using the university to settle political scores’.
