US Memorial Day: Bibire Salutes All Oyo Sons, Daughters in Uniform, Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes of Democracy

Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, a retired United States Navy veteran and son of Oyo State, has communicated unfeigned greetings to all indigenes of Oyo, both at home and abroad, who are serving or have served in defence of democracy in the United States, and across the globe.

Bibire, now an Information Technology Specialist in the United States, described Memorial Day as a solemn moment that stirs deep reflection on sacrifice, service, and the cost of peace, adding that “this is the time when the world pause to collectively remember the brave souls who laid down their lives to secure freedom so that others may live in peace.”

He made this known in a statement made available to Polity Reporters on Monday morning to commemorate the special day.

In the statement, he acknowledged and commended all Oyo citizens currently serving in various capacities within the United States military and other allied institutions across the globe.

In his words, “Today is Memorial Day here in the United States, and I want to express my profound greetings to all our people from Oyo State who are serving here and beyond, and all those who have fought and died in defence of democracy.”

He revealed that history has made it clear that democracy comes at a cost, and those who laid down their lives for its survival must never be forgotten.

He explained that while peace is enjoyed by many, there are few whose sweat, pain, and even lives made that peace possible and perpetually sustained.

Bibire reflected that his transition from the battlefield to civilian life has given him a deeper sense of gratitude and a clearer understanding of the sacrifices made by those still serving in perilous parts of the world.

He said, “Having worn the uniform myself, I understand what it takes, what sacrifice means, what service entails, and I respect those who are still out there doing it every day.”

The PDP chieftain made an affirmation that democracy survives only because some minds decided to choose courage over comfort, duty over convenience, and service over personal safety.

He further described democracy as a fragile idea that continues to rely on the bravery of a few for the safety of many, and insisted that those who give everything for it must eternally be remembered.

He reminded the public that behind every flag raised and every liberty enjoyed are accounts of people who gave all without expecting any praise, reward, or special recognition.

He therefore made a passionate appeal to the Trump-led administration and other democratic governments around the world to place the welfare of veterans and serving officers at the center of national priority to preserve the priceless gift of democracy for generations yet unborn.

Bibire concluded by praying for continued strength for the families of the fallen, divine protection for those who are still serving, and lasting peace in nations and regions that are still in the grip of war, conflict, and unrest.
