Wike Denies Allegations of Secret Support for Tinubu
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected claims that he is secretly backing President Bola Tinubu.
Wike said his support has always been open and consistent, not hidden.
He made this statement while responding to comments made by Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
Fubara had recently hinted that some politicians were forming secret alliances.
Earlier in December, Fubara officially left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress, after meeting with President Tinubu in Abuja.
During the inauguration of a road project on December 10, Fubara boldly declared his support for the President and encouraged others to do so openly.
In a year-end media chat held in Port Harcourt on Monday, Wike responded.
He said, “I don’t know who is supporting Tinubu in secret. The whole of Nigeria knows I am the number one supporter of Tinubu.”
He added that he has been open about his position from the beginning and even faced criticism from the PDP because of it.
Wike affirmed that his political style is built on openness and keeping to agreements.
He said, “Why people don’t trust politicians is because many do not keep to their word. I do not want to be that kind of politician.”
Wike ended by saying once he declares his stand, he stands by it.
