APC Youths Defect To PDP

Hundreds of youths from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming their decision on widespread hardship, unmet promises, and dissatisfaction with the present administration.

The mass defection occurred in Ilorin, the state capital, where youths from Ajikobi, Alanamu, and Ubandawaki Wards in Ilorin West Local Government formally declared their departure from the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mallam Musa Kabir, the leader of the defectors from Ubandawaki Ward, explained that their move was prompted by years of neglect and frustration under the APC government.

He acknowledged that backing the “Otoge” movement in 2019 and 2023 had been a mistake, bringing “hardship and regret” instead of the anticipated progress.

Kabir criticized the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led administration for its lack of clear vision and failure to create opportunities for young people.

He also lamented that harsh government policies had led to the collapse of numerous small businesses and shops across Ilorin, resulting in widespread youth unemployment.

Welcoming the defectors on behalf of the PDP leadership, the party’s State Secretary, Comrade Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode also from Ubandawaki Ward commended the returnees for their bravery.

He described their move as a “bold step toward rebuilding responsible leadership in Kwara.”

Kayode observed that many youths who had labored during the Otoge struggle were neglected once the APC assumed power.

He praised Musa Kabir for uniting young people across wards and bridging divisions within the community.

The State Secretary assured the new members of complete inclusion in the PDP’s framework, pledging their involvement in decision making processes and equal access to party opportunities.

Speakers at the event included Wasiu Orekan, Alfa Adam Elelubo, Lookman Olarotimi Shehu Mukadam, Alhaja Shuaib Dupe Salamat, Alanamu Abubakar Jos, and veteran politician Alhaji Musa Tapa, also took turns to condemn what they called “widespread neglect” by the current government.

Alhaja Salamat, a former civil servant sacked after the Otoge victory, shared her experience, accusing the administration of abandoning loyal supporters.

Alhaji Musa Tapa, a long-time associate of the late Dr. Olusola Saraki, announced his return to the Saraki political family.

He urged young people to obtain their voter cards and “flush out bad governance” in the 2027 elections.
