A fire disaster on Tuesday gutted 23-room Ebunloma hotel and resort in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
The incident occurred at about 05:07hours, at the hotel located at Osin area, Ita-Elepa, off Asa Dam road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state capital.
The incident, according to the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin on Tuesday, involved a building comprising about 23 rooms, with the bar section and store area affected by the fire.
“Upon arrival, firefighters immediately launched a coordinated attack on the blaze.
“Through their swift and professional efforts, the crew succeeded in preventing the fire from consuming the 23 guest rooms, thereby safeguarding significant property and averting what could have resulted in major structural loss.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was triggered by a power surge, which led to ignition within the affected sections,” the spokesman added.
Director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, advised hospitality operators and the general public to ensure their buildings are equipped with surge protectors, functional circuit breakers, and routine electrical maintenance to prevent power-related fire incidents.
He emphasized the importance of early detection and proper electrical safety practices in reducing the risk of devastating fires.
